LEED v5 Is Here — Is Your Product Strategy Ready?

The Next Evolution in Sustainable Design

LEED v5 has been officially ratified and is now available for project registration.

As of April 2025, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has launched LEED v5 for the following rating systems:

  • Building Design and Construction (BD+C)

  • Interior Design and Construction (ID+C)

  • Operations and Maintenance (O+M)

Projects can now be registered under LEED v5. However, while registration is open, full implementation guidance and the ability to submit applications for certification under LEED v5 are expected to become available later in 2025.

It's important to note that transitioning to LEED v5 is not mandatory at this time. Projects can continue to register under LEED v4 and LEED v4.1 until the end of Q1 2026. After this period, new registrations for these versions will close, but already-registered projects will have until the sunset date—six years after the close of registration—to complete their certification process.

What’s New in LEED v5 for Material Credits?

Building Product Selection and Procurement

The Building Product Selection and Procurement credit has been significantly overhauled in LEED v5, with an expanded point structure and new pathways for product contribution.

Architects and designers are demanding more transparency to better understand materials’ health, environmental, and social impact.

GreenCircle Certifications Support LEED v5 Building Product Selection and Procurement Credit

Whether you’re specifying products or advising clients on sustainable materials, GreenCircle certifications can now contribute directly to Building Product Selection and Procurement credit scoring in LEED v5. Closed Loop Certification and Recycled Content Verification are now recognized contributors under the ratified draft.
